We work with communities to tackle the biggest issues affecting children and their families, to ensure a better future for them all.
Malnutrition affects children like Pedro (left) and Teresa from Angola. They were diagnosed at a World Vision health screening and are eating enriched food called Plumpy'Nut® to aid their recovery. World Vision's nutrition centres provide health checks for children and nutritional supplement food where needed.
Education is the key to unlocking children’s potential. A quality education gives children the opportunity to choose their futures and not have them determined by their circumstances. We train teachers, help schools with repairs and provide free classes through Remedial Education Centres, like the one that Sumit (right) attends in India, that provides learning support to children of age 6-14 years.
Girls shouldn’t have to miss a week of school every month because of their periods. We ensure schools provide appropriate toilets, giving girls their dignity and privacy, so they can continue to learn. We also provide schools with clean drinking water, so children can quench their thirst at break time, making sure they can concentrate in class.
Giving children the choice – and the chance – to say no is vital. When children like Tamara, 12, pictured, understand their rights, they have a future in which they can choose what they do. Our children’s clubs teach children how to care for themselves, recognise violations of their rights, and set up committees to ensure abuse and exploitation is uncovered, stopped and perpetrators are caught.
We support communities to start savings groups - member-owned and community run groups that allow people to save together in a safe, convenient and flexible way, whereby savings can be lent to members as credit. Ayom's sons can thrive, thanks to income from goats she bought via her village saving group. This group and others like it in South Sudan have helped to revive many local women’s small businesses, bringing hope and support amid COVID-19.
We help families to help themselves - providing training and resources needed to support people to start their own businesses, as well as provide food for their families. Larisa’s grandchildren will benefit both now and in the long term from World Vision's agricultural training that has helped to create a successful raspberry producers’ group in Armenia.
We form community groups through which we can train, inform and support mothers. Learning together how to spot the signs of malnutrition, gaining new skills such as tailoring and grasping the chance to voice their concerns and have their say in community life all contribute to bettering women and their children’s life outcomes.
Our work takes us to places where early marriage, child labour and female genital mutilation, to name a few, are common practice. Child Protection Advocacy allows us to address key issues at the community, local and national levels, helping protect children from harmful traditions. We support girls to know their rights, impress on their parents the importance of their education, and involve faith leaders and community leaders in the condemning of harmful practices against girls.
Shaima and her family made a hard 72km walk to seek refuge in Jordan after missiles and bombs destroyed her entire village.
Her sister died of sunstroke on the way and her mother is grieving her greatly.
World Vision provides water, sanitation, and hygiene education to families like Shaima’s.
Shaima has to get up at 5am to collect water, but gets an education at the camp, and plays football with her friends afterwards.
She still remembers the smell of bodies and feels the loss of her sister, but thanks to partners like you, life in the camp is better than it could be, and she has dreams of becoming a paediatrician.
