How your donation helps

For children in Haiti, the impact of the hurricane is yet another blow. With families already struggling to find food and safety, they are now at risk from floods, damaged homes, and disrupted communities. Children are particularly vulnerable as infrastructure collapses and essential services struggle to operate.

Your generosity can change this. With your help, families can receive food assistance, hygiene kits and shelter to help them survive in the coming days and weeks.

Together, we can help children survive, recover and begin to rebuild their lives.

Compounding pressures

Before Hurricane Melissa, nearly half of Haiti’s population was already experiencing acute hunger, with more than two million people at emergency levels.

Prolonged unrest has displaced more than 1.3 million people, over half of them children. Many families have crossed into the Dominican Republic seeking safety.

World Vision's response

World Vision has worked in Haiti for more than 45 years, supporting children, families, and communities through both long-term development programmes and emergency relief.

We focus on improving access to clean water, nutrition, healthcare, and protection for the most vulnerable children.

In 2024, World Vision’s programmes in Haiti reached tens of thousands of people:

  • 47,942 people gained access to clean water through new water points
  • 59,032 pregnant and breastfeeding women received nutrition support
  • 18,909 people benefited from food assistance programmes
  • 191 children under five received care for severe malnutrition, with over 80% fully recovered

Emergency response efforts during the same year supported thousands more:

  • 9,005 people received food aid
  • 10,770 received water, sanitation, and hygiene support
  • 11,318 individuals benefited from child protection and psychosocial programmes
  • 5,685 children received targeted care to help them cope with trauma and remain safe

How we work in emergencies

When emergencies hit, children are often the most at risk. That’s why we need to be there – in places torn apart by disasters and conflict.

Why World Vision

Together we’ve impacted the lives of over 200 million vulnerable children by tackling the root causes of poverty.
