Sponsor a child in Asia

Children across Asia are growing up with big dreams for the future.

Yet too many lack the opportunities every child deserves. Challenges beyond their control make it harder to learn, thrive and look ahead with hope.

Through Child Sponsorship, you can help create lasting change, not just for one child but for their family and whole community.

Why child sponsorship is needed in Asia

While some countries in Asia have experienced rapid economic growth, many children still lack reliable access to essentials such as safe water, education, healthcare and protection.

The challenges children face in Asia are often interconnected. When family incomes are stretched, children struggle to stay in school. When access to clean water is limited, health suffers. Climate-related disasters can further disrupt daily life, while the existence of child labour, child marriage and trafficking in some areas can put vulnerable children at even greater risk.

Through Child Sponsorship, communities are supported to tackle these challenges together, creating lasting change so children can thrive. Your monthly donation is combined with support from other sponsors to provide essentials such as clean water, education, healthcare and child protection in vulnerable communities across countries including Nepal and Bangladesh.

The statistics below provide a snapshot of some of the challenges children in South Asia are facing today:

.

What sponsorship helps change for children in Asia

Sponsorship starts with one child. But it doesn't end there.

World Vision works alongside local leaders to address the root causes of poverty and create change that lasts for generations.

Through Child Sponsorship, communities can strengthen education, healthcare, child protection and livelihoods, creating benefits that reach far beyond a single child.

In fact, for every sponsored child, four more children benefit from the improvements made across their community.

Education

Sponsorship helps improve access to education in Asia by breaking down barriers to learning. This includes providing learning resources and improving classroom environments, training teachers, and running youth groups that support children’s development. Crucially, it also helps address the underlying reasons why children miss or leave school, such as poverty, financial pressures, and social and gender-related barriers.

Health, nutrition and hygiene

Sponsorship helps improve children’s health and wellbeing in Asia by strengthening access to healthcare services, including vaccinations, basic medical care, and nutrition programmes. It also supports improvements in hygiene and sanitation through access to clean water, toilets, and handwashing facilities. Importantly, it includes training for healthcare workers and community volunteers to strengthen local health services.

Protection

Sponsorship helps to protect children in Asia from risks that can affect their safety, wellbeing, and future opportunities. This includes supporting children affected by conflict and disaster, disability-related barriers, gender-based violence, child marriage, exploitation, and child labour. Through education, community engagement and advocacy, sponsorship helps address the underlying causes of these issues while strengthening local systems to better safeguard children and promote their rights.

Impact story: Transforming life for children like Nirob

Behind every statistic is a child with their own hopes, dreams and potential.

Across Asia, millions of children are growing up facing challenges they did not create and circumstances they did not choose. Yet every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and look ahead to the future with confidence.

Children like Nirob.

12-year-old Nirob stokes one of his family's cows on the head while it eats from a bucket.
12-year-old Nirob strokes one of the cows that have helped transform his family's income.

Twelve-year-old Nirob lives in Bangladesh with his parents and two sisters.

Life wasn't easy for his family. Their small tin home often flooded when the rains came, and they struggled to afford enough food, healthcare, clothes and school supplies.

Thanks to Child Sponsorship, things have started to change. Nirob's mum joined a local savings group and learned how to raise animals and grow vegetables at home. Today, the family earns extra income from chickens, cows and their garden, helping them put healthy food on the table and build a more secure future.

Nirob is now attending school regularly, spending time with friends and looking forward to what lies ahead. His family has moved into a stronger brick house, and the fear of seasonal flooding is no longer hanging over them.

It's a powerful reminder that when children and families are given the opportunity to thrive, lasting change is possible.

By sponsoring a child, you can help create stories like Nirob's – opening the door to a brighter, safer future for children across Asia.

FAQs about Child Sponsorship in Asia

  • You can sponsor a child in Asia from just £30 a month - that's less than £1 a day.

  • The donation you give doesn't go directly to your sponsored child or family.

For maximum impact and efficiency, your monthly donations are combined with those of other sponsors to ensure consistent support for your sponsored child and their community, as well as other sponsorship communities around the world. This community-wide approach means your sponsorship can create change beyond one child.

Depending on what a community needs, this support can include:
    •    Building and maintaining clean water systems
    •    Equipping schools and training teachers
    •    Stocking clinics and supporting health workers
    •    Improving nutrition and sanitation
    •    Protecting children from violence and exploitation
    •    Helping families build skills and more secure incomes.

  • If your circumstances change and you need to stop sponsoring a child, you can do so at any time. If you are thinking about cancelling your sponsorship, please get in touch, as there may be other ways in which you can continue your support. The child you sponsor will continue to benefit from the changes in their community and we will do our best to find a new sponsor for them.
