Global 6K for Water

Join the world's largest family fundraiser for clean water

Every year, thousands of people travel the distance of 6 kilometres. That’s the distance most people (often women and girls) in the developing world travel every single day to collect water.

We invite you to join our global movement and help bring that life-changing clean water to communities instead.

Walk, run, jump, cycle - you can travel the distance however you want, by yourself or with family or friends. Each step you take is one a child doesn’t have to.

How to join World Vision's Global 6K

FAQs

  • Six kilometres (or 3.7 miles) is the average distance a person in the developing world must walk to find water that is often unsafe to drink. By participating in this event, you are walking/running that distance so they won’t have to.

  • Nearly 1,000 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhoea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. But we believe the global water and sanitation crisis can be solved within our lifetimes. That’s why we’re focused on providing clean water and sanitation to every man, woman, and child in every community we work in, including the most vulnerable populations in the hardest-to-reach places.

  • Yes! We encourage families and children to participate in this event together. Children of all ages can register as a participant to walk or run the 6K. If your child is not independently walking/running the 6K (i.e. they’re being carried or pushed in a stroller), they do not need to register. However, if you want a bib, shirt and medal for your child, then registration is required. And you’re able to register everyone at the same time!

  • World Vision is the largest non-governmental provider of clean water in the world and our water projects run in harmony with our other key areas of development: health, education, food, and economic development. This approach to clean water tackles the root causes of poverty, enabling children to experience the fullness of life.

Your donations will help us bring clean water to children and their communities living in some of the toughest places on earth. You will help to bring a future full of hope to children around the world. And here is a taste of how your donations help, bringing water to where it is needed most.

2020's Virtual Global 6K

Although coronavirus took its toll across the world, we didn't let it stop our work to bring clean water to children who need it - and our valiant supporters didn't let it dampen their spirits.

People around the world took part and donated, helping to raise over £17,000 for water projects for vulnerable communities.

Together, we funded:

380 community taps

helping around 113,953 people to wash their hands and stay clean and healthy.
