A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake has devastated communities across Colombia. Tremors were felt as far as Bogotá, Medellín and Cali.

More than 100 people have lost their lives, and homes, schools and hospitals have been damaged or destroyed.

Many of the hardest-hit communities in Chocó can only be reached by river, making it more difficult to deliver lifesaving aid. Colombia is also hosting families who have fled neighbouring Venezuela, placing extra pressure on vulnerable communities.

How we work in emergencies

We respond all over the world

During 2025, we helped over 35 million people in emergencies - including 18 million children. We respond to humanitarian crises, caused by conflict as well as natural disasters, in 70 different countries.
