Gladys's life in Bolivia
Gladys’s daily needs:
For children like Gladys, growing up in Mosoj P’unchay, hunger and malnutrition are facts of life. Children do not have enough healthy food to eat and mothers aren't encouraged to breastfeed. Parents don’t always know how to grow enough food to feed their children.
- Children don't eat the right foods to grow healthy and strong.
- Children struggle to learn in school, as teachers are poorly trained.
- Many children live in fear of abuse, at home and at school.
Your sponsorship can change Gladys's world, and her community, for good.
How Sponsorship Helps
When you sponsor a child for £26 a month it brings much needed change to one child… and many more. The benefits you help provide, extend to your child's family, their community and other children in need. This is because we partner, plan and work alongside local community members to help build healthy, sustainable communities for vulnerable children in the world’s hardest places.
We listen to the child's community and help to identify their main needs.
We work with the community to develop a long-term action plan.
We make sure immediate needs are met, then move on to start the process of deeper, sustainable change.
We train volunteers, empower local groups, and provide resources and support for the community to make changes that will last long into the future.
What will your donation actually change?
Because of our community-focused solutions, for every child you help, four more children benefit, too. Depending on the priority needs in your child’s community, as a sponsor you will be improving lives by providing:
Each year children are dying from diseases caught by drinking dirty water. World Vision is reaching one new person with clean water every 10 seconds and brings clean water to three more schools every day.
We save lives by training volunteer health care assistants, bringing vaccination programmes, and working with families to help protect their children from infection and disease ensuring the most vulnerable have access to healthcare services.
We deliver nutrition programmes and farmers' schools, teaching new techniques to grow stronger crops, protect the soil and grow kitchen gardens - helping families feed their children and saving millions of lives around the world.
Education can transform a child’s life. We’re improving basic literacy and numeracy and working alongside communities to help them better understand their children's rights, and raise their voices to protect and provide for their children.
We provide training in new skills, and support mothers to start their own businesses helping provide a stable income so children and families can have better nutrition, healthcare and greater access to education.

Why sponsor a girl?
Sponsoring a girl could be one of the most important decisions you ever make. Our child sponsorship programmes tackle deep-rooted issues, to give girls the opportunities that we take for granted in the UK.
Give girls access to healthcare
Around the world girls often suffer worse health than their brothers. Sons are more likely to be taken to clinics and immunised. Unfortunately, parents can see investment in their daughter as a waste as it’s the family she marries into that will reap the benefits.
Provide girls with better nutrition
It’s not uncommon for girls to be less nourished than boys, particularly in countries in South and South East Asia. Food can be allocated according to status rather than need, which means mothers and daughters eat less than fathers and boys.
Give girls the right to an education
Girls are less likely to receive an education than boys. In a number of countries, girls are more likely to drop out of school than boys to help at home, or be married at an early age.
We know that educated girls have better opportunities. They can earn higher wages. They’re likely to marry later, and have healthier pregnancies and safer births. And their own children are likely to be healthier and to get an education too.
Prevent pregnancy related deaths
Child marriage causes lifelong psychological, physical and economic problems, especially when early pregnancies are involved. Pregnancy complications are the leading cause of death for 15-19 year old girls worldwide.
