How you can help

Children and families, forced to flee their homes, are surviving in camps, distressed by what they've seen and experienced.

Camps are at breaking point. Our partners on the ground are overwhelmed by the scale of the needs of the millions of displaced Syrians.

As the conflict drags on through its eleventh year - and with Covid further adding to the devastation - a whole generation of Syrians face being trapped in a cycle of poverty and violence. And children often pay the highest price, with cases of child labour and child marriage increasing to their highest levels in the past year.

More needs to be done to support this generation of children so that they can secure Syria's future once the fighting stops.

Cramped in refugee camps

Catherine's Mother, Aysha, says she doesn't smile anymore. Their neighbourhood was bombed and they were forced to flee - now 13 family members live in one tent in a refugee camp.

Aysha says “We’re not capable of dreaming of the future,” she says. “My children were born and raised in a tent. There is no tomorrow for them.”

Traumatised

Fadi, 15, lost his father and his arm in an airstrike on his home. Now he and his family are struggling to get by in a refugee camp and he urgently needs a prosthetic arm.

Fadi says "When I lost my arm, I felt as if I were dead. Now I carry bricks with my brother using one arm to help provide for my family."

At risk of abuse

Syria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a child, especially a girl. Since the conflict, child marriage and domestic violence has increased.

We provide safe spaces where Syrian refugees can learn again. Children study subjects like Arabic, English, Maths, art and music.

Safety from coronavirus

Our water and sanitation teams are providing water, soap and sanitisers to refugee camps and educating thousands of people on how to protect themselves.
