Following the resignation of President Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe yesterday, Emmanuel Isch, World Vision Zimbabwe National Director, said:

“The mood in the country is one of joy, celebration and hope. The streets of the capital Harare and across the country are filled with people marking the resignation of President Robert Mugabe and the end of his long era of leadership with singing, dancing and ululation.

"For Zimbabweans this marks a period of immense change as Mugabe has been in power for 37 years.

"World Vision hopes the period of political transition will be one of peace, tranquillity and unity. The country is filled with hope at the possibility for the kinds of change that will bring economic improvement and development and a brighter future for children and youth.

"Zimbabwe is a country of massive potential and possibility. The nation’s children and young people have proved themselves to be determined and resilient and who make the most of every opportunity to improve their lives, despite the many challenges and hardships they have faced. We stand with Zimbabwe at this time of change and hope that the international community will step up to partner with the people to improve the lives of children and their families.”
