World Vision's challenge for Anneka
Anneka Rice joined with World Vision to help rebuild parts of a Sri Lankan village devastated by the tsunami in a Challenge Anneka special, two years after the emergency.
Anneka and her team worked with local people and World Vision staff to:
- rebuild and equip a maternity clinic
- build a children’s play centre
- refurbish a cricket pavilion and pitch.
The work was about much more than just providing or restoring buildings – each project was core to the continuation of community life. The completed projects have left a wonderful legacy to people living in the village.
World Vision’s tsunami response in Sri Lanka is now finishing, but the organisation continues to support long-term development programmes and community initiatives in the country where it has worked for 30 years.
