Libo Kemkem is located in the Amhara state, 81 kilometres from the regional capital, Bahir Dar. The area is prone to drought and consists mainly of large plains and gorges. It can also be mountainous and farming is made more difficult because of land degradation, soil erosion and depletion of natural resources. The programme in Libo Kemkem started in 2004.
Community access to clean water, education and medical treatment is very poor, so these challenges are a priority. There is also a clear need for better farming practices to conserve the land and improve crops. HIV/AIDS is affecting this community and enhancing awareness is vital.
World Vision is working in partnership with the people of Libo Kemkem to improve agriculture, food security, household income and community sustainability. Building these strong foundations and providing better access to clean water and healthcare will enable the communities to achieve a better quality of life and a more stable future.
