Honduras
The people of Honduras rely heavily on agriculture which is constantly threatened by natural disasters including droughts and hurricanes. Last year, a strong earthquake and a political crisis made life even harder. Agricultural exports, especially coffee and bananas, keep the economy going, but around a quarter of children under five are still malnourished. Sponsorship donations are providing livestock like cows, which are reserved for families whose children need better nourishment. The Honduran government is working hard to improve the nation’s health, and child immunisation has now reached almost the entire population. More children in Honduras gaining access to education, the quality of their schools is also improving. Pre-schools are helping thousands more children prepare for their crucial years of learning..
