Bolivia
During the winter of 2007, the worst flooding for 25 years hit Bolivia as a result of the El Niño phenomenon. The United Nations estimated that around 400,000 people were affected, with at least 5,000 families forced to move into temporary shelters. There was also a risk of diseases spreading due to a lack of clean water and adequate sanitation.
