The people of Niger are still facing huge challenges in gaining food security and escaping poverty, which means that your support was all the more needed and appreciated over the past year. The 2009 UNDP Human Development Report placed Niger at the very bottom of 182 countries ranked for access to food, clean water, sanitation, education, healthcare and life expectancy. Currently there is a serious food insecurity problem in Niger and World Vision are working with several other organisations to help ensure that the most malnourished children are receiving the food they need, through specially set up feeding programmes. It’s never easy to accept unpromising statistics, but the incredible need in Niger is one of the main reasons why World Vision is working so hard to improve lives in the impoverished country.
