In 2006 we were awarded a 5 year Programme Partnership Agreement (PPA) with the Department for International Development (DFID) so that we can include disabled persons in poverty reduction across our global work.
In return World Vision is calling on the UK government to also implement its own mainstreaming programme to include disabled people in their development activities by:
1. Provide comparable data on disability in each United Nations Millennium Development Goal (new pages on disability and the MDGscoming shortly);
2. Develop tools for use within its own departments and civil society ensuring participation by disabled people and their families in policy and implementation programmes;
3. Set up monitoring mechanisms for each MDG for impact evaluation on disability;
4. Create links to harness the knowledge and expertise of disabled people and their organizations to decision making processes.
