Mainstreaming Disability

In order to achieve this World Vision UK is committed to ensuring that disability issues are considered and included across all our work and not as a separate provision.

World Vision UK is committed to considering and including disability issues across all our work and not as a separate provision.  Led by Sue Coe, World Vision UK's Senior Disability Adviser, support is provided across the organisation by:

  • Working with colleagues in other UK departments and throughout the World Vision Partnership to ensure inclusion and participation of disabled people across all of its operations; i.e. development programmes, humanitarian assistance and advocacy as well as its own internal systems and staffing procedures.
  • Participating in international and national campaigns focusing on promoting the rights and inclusion of disabled people, these currently include:
    • Global Campaign for Education call for Education for All (see Education briefing for more details);
    • the MDG Call to Action Campaign to ensure that disabled people are included in global effort to eradicate poverty;
    • and supports the united effort of disability movements and organisations around the world committed to seeing a fully ratified and implemented UNCRDP.
  • Contributing through research to learning, debate and information exchange about how and why disabled people are more often than not forgotten and excluded from community provision and development input.
  • Engaging with disabled people’s organisations, development agencies and coalitions committed to inclusive development to raise awareness of disabled people’s rights in the UK and overseas.
