Who is affected?

Our Area Development Programmes are designed to have the broadest reach possible, while maintaining their effectiveness. Sometimes, an ADP can cover 120 villages, while another one may focus on two or three.

The ADP management team is led by the very people it aims to help - the communities themselves. Because they are taking the lead in how the programme should develop, they are being equipped in the long-term, with expertise that will have lasting implications for the whole area.

As well as combatting the immediate problems such as malnutrition, health care provision and clean water supplies, an ADP will also look at tackling the reasons behind the poverty.

People who sponsor children usually choose to be committed for a number of years. That means we are able to commit long-term funding to our ADPs, and the fact that sponsors' money is combined to fund the whole ADP means that many more children and families benefit from the programme. For every child that is sponsored, we estimate that four other children are also reached.
