Global peacework honoured through awards

World Vision has announced the recipients of its Peace Prize on the International Day of Peace.

The prize includes two awards: the Peacemaking Award, which honours an individual, and the Peacebuilding Award, which is being shared by two organisations.

The Peacemaking Award is awarded to Mary Ann Arnado of the Philippines. This year’s Peacebuilding Award is shared between Kids for Peace of World Vision Kosovo and World Vision Rwanda.

The Peace Prize recognises individuals and organisations that have made unique contributions toward the promotion of peace in their communities and beyond.

Mary Ann Arnado received the award for her work with the Mindanao people in the Philippines.

Her understanding of the long-running internal conflict affecting Mindanaons has helped her to bridge the gap between indigenous women and youth and community leaders, promoting peace.

Peace clubs

World Vision Kosovo has developed Kids for Peace clubs, providing opportunities for multi-ethnic interaction among children and young people in primary schools across rural Kosovo.

World Vision Rwanda has been recognised for integrating peacebuilding into its relief and development work following the 1994 genocide.

The Peace Prize is awarded in honour and memory of Steve Williams, who worked for World Vision UK as a policy advisor on peace and conflict, and who died unexpectedly in 2007.
