But while people in richer countries eat too much food and battle with obesity, 800 million people worldwide go to bed hungry every night. Each day 25,000 people die from the effects of malnutrition.
Food insecurity is when people can't buy or grow enough food to stay active, healthy and alive. It’s one of the biggest problems facing many areas of the world today.
The facts about hunger are disturbing. But there are solutions. Globally, we produce enough food each year for every man, woman and child to enjoy a healthy and balanced diet – and still have food left over. What we need to do is help people without enough to eat to access the food that is, or can be, available.
