Haja Saleh Osman holds Asha, her deaf 2 1/2 yr-old daughter at the entrance to their shelter in Dereig camp. The family dwelling is a 2 x 4 metre plastic sheeting covered hut. Their village was raided twice in five months. Hundreds of their fellow villagers scampered to safety on trucks, donkeys and on foot.
The conflict in Darfur has orphaned, widowed and wrought untold suffering to thousands of families. Now huddled in plastic dwellings across the camp, many are struggling to cope with their new lives

Families fleeing fighting in south Darfur arrive in Otash Camp.  The proportion of women to men is striking; many women are reporting that their husbands have been killed by armed militias. There is a desperate need for shelter from the intense sun and impending rain. Some have huddled under Baobab trees, hoping for some shade and protection
