Raw Hope is a new initiative from World Vision to save and protect children in the world’s most dangerous places.
|
Raw Hope is about protecting the children in the most treacherous places on earth. These areas are termed by Foreign Policy as ‘fragile contexts’. This is where a government cannot or will not act on its responsibility to protect the rights of its population. All these areas experience unacceptably high child and maternal mortality rates.
Children born in fragile contexts can suffer many unbearable experiences. These include harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation and early marriage. Widespread exploitation such as rape and trafficking are common. Many are forced to work as child soldiers, or are used as prostitutes against their will. Many of the children Raw Hope helps suffer from disease and malnutrition, caused by poor hygiene and limited access to water and nutritious food. Raw Hope also works to help bring rehabilitation and stability through peace-building in these volatile areas.
We need your support today, so that Raw Hope can help give children protection from these horrific dangers giving them a greater chance of surviving childhood.
We are there in the aftermath of conflict and disaster helping rebuild lives. By supporting Raw Hope, every month you’ll receive a short video showing on the ground footage and stories from one of the countries we’re working in so you can see how your money is helping to save and protect the world’s most vulnerable children.

Where is my money going?
Raw Hope works specifically in the most fragile areas, where other funds are unable to reach, in order to provide protection and a chance of survival for the children who live there. These children have to face significant and immediate danger every single day, as their lives are continually at risk from physical harm, exploitation, and general immediate threat from their environment.
Raw Hope funds allow World Vision to respond to urgent need, providing aid and security for children in volatile areas. That means everything from helping to give children a voice through child parliaments, to minimising the risk of rape and murder of children travelling to water supplies.
Why can’t I sponsor a child in these areas?
Raw Hope focuses on the world’s most dangerous places, where there is poverty, insecurity, and a disregard for human dignity. These areas have been referred to by Foreign Policy* as ‘fragile contexts’ - where a government cannot, or will not, act on its responsibility to protect the rights of its population. The nature of these ‘contexts’ makes setting up programmes such as child sponsorship, extremely difficult and inefficient. Until Raw Hope, World Vision has had to rely on unreliable sources of funding which halted the provision of substantial support to those areas most in need.
What exactly do you mean by the ‘most dangerous places on earth’?
These areas are referred to as ‘dangerous places’ due to a variety of factors. Foreign Policy* has labeled them as ‘fragile contexts’ - where a government cannot or will not act on its responsibility to protect the rights of its population. Some of the issues these areas are plagued by include; malnutrition, high child and maternal mortality, harmful traditional practices such as early marriage and female genital mutilation, exploitation, such as trafficking, child soldiers and prostitution and disease due to poor hygiene and limited access to water.
