What is VisionFund?

VisionFund is the Microfinance subsidiary of World Vision.

The provision of finance for the poor was one of the guiding principles of Dr Robert Pierce, founder of World Vision.

In 1993, World Vision began to implement Microfinance programmes formally to benefit the economically active poor, through Microfinance institutions, MFI's.
In 2003, recognising the importance and complexity of this work, VisionFund International was created as a wholly owned subsidiary of World Vision to govern and manage this financial work.

Integration

World Vision works in over 100 countries, helping over 100 million people providing relief and development interventions that transform lives.

In an integrated way, World Vision helps communities with their education, health, water provision, agriculture and food security as well as economic development.  VisionFund manages the provision of Microfinance to the entrepreneurial poor, working hand in hand with World Vision, coupling sound financial principles with transformational development interventions.

During 2009, VisionFund Microfinance institutions had an overall portfolio of US$381 million, with more than 624,000 borrowers in 43 countries with a loan repayment rate of 96.7%.  Over 2.19 million children have benefitted from our work and 1,080,000 jobs have been impacted.
