When a humanitarian disaster unfolds, the following days and weeks can be a desperate struggle for survival. Lack of shelter, food and medical provisions can quickly turn an emergency into a catastrophe. It is usually children that are most at risk and in need of support.

Health and nutrition

In an emergency, children lack food, shelter and healthcare, and are more prone to disease or injury. World Vision provides safe water, food and items essential for sustaining life in the wake of an emergency.

Protection

In the chaos of an emergency, children often become lost or orphaned, making them vulnerable to trafficking, abuse and recruitment as child soldiers. World Vision sets up Child Friendly Spaces, safe places where children can eat, make friends and overcome trauma, often caused by disaster.

Care and provision

Children and families often struggle to provide for themselves after an emergency. World Vision helps families in the long-term, by training them in alternative livelihoods, or by helping them to rebuild their businesses.

Literacy and life skills

Emergencies interrupt education and affect the physical and emotional development of children.  World Vision rebuilds schools and communities, giving children a sense of normality and security as soon as possible.

You can make a difference to the lives of children and their families by giving a regular gift to Children in Emergencies.

Your donations to Children In Emergencies help us at each stage of tackling an emergency; from training and preparation for communities in disaster-prone areas, to immediate relief aid, as well as rebuilding homes, schools and livelihoods.

For example:

  • After just six months, your regular gift of £5 could provide food and treatment for a malnourished child
  • A gift of £10 a month, after six months, could provide a family in a disaster-prone area with an emergency kit, containing essential items such as hygiene and shelter kits and cooking utensils.
