Online Book of Remembrance Q&As

What is the Book of Remembrance?

World Vision’s new on-line Book of Remembrance has been designed to enable people to create a sensitive and personalised online tribute for their loved one.

Once you have created your tribute page, you can send an email to friends and family, inviting them to visit the page and add their contribution to the page; maybe by recording a message of condolence, sharing a special story or adding a favourite photo.
You will be able to review all messages and photos from visitors first, which allows you to choose what you would like posted onto your loved one’s tribute page.  Visitors can also choose to make a donation to further support our work – a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one and recognise a cause they cared about during their lifetime.

How long does it take to create a tribute page?

It only takes a few minutes to set up your tribute page.  There is a simple five-step process to follow, and you can preview your tribute page before submitting it to World Vision for publication.  Our aim is to publish your page within three working days.  We will notify you by email as soon as this has been done.

Can I amend my tribute page later?

A username and password will be automatically emailed to you as soon as your page has been published. Once you have your password, which gives you access to the administration area you can do the following things:

• Edit your page content
• View and approve messages and photographs that friends and family have submitted
• Share your page with others
• Amend the length of time that the page is published

What about online security?

Once created, tribute page administration is secured from unauthorised access by a unique username and password. This will be sent to you via email once your page has been published by World Vision. Comments and photographs added by friends and family and will appear only once authorised by yourself.

All donations to a tribute page are handled though Worldpay. Details are secured and encrypted using 128bit SSL certified by Thawte, a public certificate authority, to ensure maximum security.

Where will the donations received through the Book of Remembrance be used?  What kind of work will the donations support?

Visitors can also choose to make a donation to further support our work - a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one and recognise a cause they cared about during their lifetime.
World Vision works to make a serious and sustainable impact on poverty and its causes, especially as they affect children. Donations received through the Book of Remembrance will be used to support our General Fund, this means that we can use your donation to support our work around the world, wherever the need is greatest. For example, when disaster strikes your gift could help us to provide a fast and effective response and save lives.
