For most, Halloween is a night of excitement, friendly frights and safe scares. But for the children of Syria fear is very real. And it’s every night of the year.
The Syrian civil war is in its fourth year, and has stolen the childhoods of millions of children. Children like Hani, 8, have seen unspeakable horrors. They have witnessed the deaths of family members, endured sleepless nights of bombing and fighting, and now live in constant fear and uncertainty.
This Halloween, show the children of Syria that they have not been forgotten.
Carve a heart in your pumpkin as a symbol of hope.
Download your Night of Hope resources with carving tips; recipes and decorations.
Share a picture of it with us so that we can show the children of Syria.
You can share a picture of your carved pumpkin, along with a message of hope to the children of Syria on our pumpkin page or direct to Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #ANightOfHope. All the pumpkin pictures will combine to create a pumpkin mosaic which will be shared with Syrian refugee children living in Lebanon during a visit this November.

Hold a pumpkin party this October
The children of Syria have seen things that no child should see. But amid the fear there is hope. The children love playing with their family and friends; their childhood is not completely lost. Later this year World Vision will be putting on some special parties for Syrian refugee children living in Lebanon so that, for a few hours at least, they can let go of their worries and enjoy being a child.
How you can help
You can show your support for the children of Syria by holding a Night of Hope pumpkin party this October.
Your party-goers can donate £5 on the night by texting HEART4 to 70060. Donations will go towards schooling for some of the three million Syrian children who have had their education disrupted and their futures ripped away.
If your guests are unable to donate by text, you can collect their donation and pay in the funds raised via our website, by phone or by post. Find out more »
For those of you who would prefer not getting your hands a bit messy carving your own pumpkin, we’ve created a site where you can select a choice of pumpkins and heart stencils. You can carve your own virtual pumpkin online here and share it and a message of hope with the children of Syria.
Whether you’ve carved your pumpkin in person or online, please visit our site to add your heart and message of hope to our mosaic to show the children of Syria that they have not been forgotten. The mosaic will be shared with Syrian refugee children living in Lebanon during a visit this November.
