HIV and AIDS

HIV and AIDS is one of the greatest threats to eradicating poverty. In 2007, over 33 million people were living with HIV worldwide, roughly two-thirds of them in Africa. Every day in 2007, over 7,000 people were newly infected with HIV, with over 1,000 of those newly infected being children under the age of 15.

HIV and AIDS has left millions of children neglected and vulnerable - the missing faces of the pandemic. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, a staggering 12 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS, a figure roughly equivalent to the total number of children in the UK.

World Vision UK is currently providing support to more than 800,000 children affected by HIV and AIDS, primarily through community-led efforts. By sponsoring a child today, you can help us reach more.
